FACT SHEET 2005-2006
ASSISTANCE LEAGUE of Kansas City, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit
organization and a chapter of NATIONAL ASSISTANCE LEAGUE,
has a 23-year history of philanthropic service to the Greater Kansas City community. The 324 members contributed over 21,329 volunteer hours to serve 11,068 children and adults in 2005-2006. There are no paid employees.
SERVICES TO OUR COMMUNITY:

ASSAULT SURVIVOR KITS® provided
205 kits which were delivered to MOCSA (Metropolitan
Organization to Counter Sexual Assault) and COVERSA (Collection of Victim
Evidence Regarding Sexual Assault) who in turn takes them to local hospitals
in Clay, Jackson, and Platte counties for use by victims of rape. Program
Costs: $3,344.
- CHILDREN'S MERCY NORTHLAND VOLUNTEERISM PROJECT started in June 2005. The volunteer area of responsibility was the sign-in area for patients, with the volunteers providing activities for families who were waiting to see medical personnel. Since June, 620 hours of volunteerism has been provided. Program Cost: none.

HUMAN OUTREACH PROJECT
responded to the “Adopt an Angel” program, where 75 Christmas gifts for children were donated to Synergy Services. Program Costs: Absorbed by individual members.
- I'M IN CHARGE serviced 5,424 students with materials to help teach elementary children safety in emergency and non-emergency situations when alone. Ten school districts participate, plus the Diocesan Schools of Kansas City-St. Joseph. Program Costs: $3,978.

OPERATION FOSTER CHILDREN
distributed backpacks with school supplies to 145 foster
children, and served an additional 56 special requests
made through case workers. Heartland Auxiliary,
one of two auxiliaries of Assistance League of Kansas
City, runs this project. Program Costs: $21,854.

OPERATION HUG
gave over 4,416 teddy bears to comfort children in
crisis. Five Hospitals and four police stations
participate in this program. Program Costs:
$21,830.

OPERATION SCHOOL BELL® provided new clothing for 1,133 elementary school children in five school Districts. Program Costs: $69,200.

ASSISTEENS® Auxiliary assisted
the chapter in its projects as well as participating in various monthly
projects of its own including working with Harvesters, a community blood
drive and Operation Senior Citizen.
FUNDING OUR PROJECTS TO THE COMMUNITY:

THE ReSALE SHOP, an upscale thrift
store located at 6257 North Oak Traffic way, opened in August, 1997 and
recycles gently used items at very reasonable prices. THE ReSALE
SHOP is completely staffed by member volunteers. Approximately
13,000 customers purchased items. Two fashion shows were fulfilled in
the community.

Poinsettia Sales 4,084 plants were sold for holiday giving
and enjoyment.

SOCK IT TO 'EM sent invitations and received donations from 289
donors.

Spring Plant Sale - 320 spring plants were sold.

Christopher Radko Ornaments -
These beautiful, unique ornaments were developed
this year and sold to 181 Assistance League of Kansas City chapter members
and collectors across the country.

The Heartland Run benefits foster
children in Clay and Platte counties. This event
is a project of the Heartland Auxiliary.

Donations and Grants from individuals, businesses, corporations,
and foundations also helped fund services. No United
Way agency funding is received.
MISSION STATEMENT:
We identify and respond to the needs of the community through our own philanthropic projects. We respond by reaching out to others as a friend to promote self-esteem, comfort, safety and the emotional well-being of those served and those serving.
