The reviews are in! Here's what some of the critics (teachers, kids,
parents, and volunteers) are saying about ASSISTANCE LEAGUE®
of Kansas City's new and improved I'M IN CHARGE program:
"TWO THUMBS UP."
"Compelling and current."
"A must-see."
"Relevant to today's kids."
"Every home needs a copy."
These are just a few of the rave reviews describing this updated
video and booklet. I'M IN CHARGE is a self-care course for elementary
children focusing on safety in emergency and non-emergency situations when home
alone on their own. The I'M IN CHARGE program was the first
philanthropic project of ASSISTANCE LEAGUE of Kansas City in 1984. Since
then, the program has been used by over 60,000 students and serves approximately 5000
new students each year.
This has been a busy year for the I'M IN CHARGE committee. Volunteers
worked long and hard to re-produce a new student booklet, facilitators guide
and video, costing over $30,000 to fund. In January, the committee sponsored a
"Wine & Cheese Gala" to celebrate and promote the premiere of the new I'M
IN CHARGE video and booklet release. Those present were the
superintendents, principals, counselors and third and fourth grade teachers
from Excelsior Sprints, Kearney, Liberty, Missouri City, North Kansas City,
Kansas City, MO, Park Hill, Platte County RIII and Smithville schools. This
endeavor has been a tremendous success with the school counselors and community
leaders.
Our most current success with the program has been the endorsement
this month by Kansas City, Missouri Police chief Richard D. Easley. Chief
Easley insists "every home needs a copy of ASSISTANCE LEAGUE of Kansas City's I'M
IN CHARGE, 'Your family's guide to keeping children safe when alone
at home or on their own'."
